BEWARE OF NANS CAREERISTS, NANS SAYS NO TO GEJ ENDORSEMENT IN ONDO STATE

Our attention has been drawn to a statement released on social media and signed by one Timileyin Ayenuro as the Vice President (National Affairs) of the National Association of Nigerian Students, claiming that the Ondo National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Committee (JCC) and Students' Union presidents met and resolved to endorse, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, for his bid for 2nd term in office.

Firstly, we state categorically and unequivocally that ONDO NANS JCC is neither a political Association nor affiliated to any political party in the universe. Again, it is an Association saddled with the responsibility of seeing to the social and academic welfare of students in the state. Therefore, any decision of endorsing anybody seeking for political office is antithetical, anti-students and irrational.

At a time when there are several issues burning in the heart of students such as ; Hike in tuition fees, non-payment of annual bursary, clamour for better condition for learning, reinstatement of students union on campuses and victimized student leaders etc. Some set of individuals who are supposedly student leaders will be seen diminishing the integrity of students by allegedly receiving money from politicians and publicly declaring support for them unbehalf of students.

We challenge the writer (Ayenuro Timileyin), a NANS careerist , to make public the names of Students' Union presidents and executives of the Ondo NANS JCC present in the meeting. Moreso, the minutes of such meeting be made public.

However, we the authentic executives of the Ondo NANS JCC (Oladimeji Ayodele Blackey led executives) use this medium to reiterate that the process and agenda of bringing back NANS to the campus where genuine students will be in-charge of NANS leadership is still on track. Consequently, we make bold to state that if any other state axis of NANS is endorsing political office seekers, Ondo NANS is different and should not be dragged into what we do not stand for. We therefore urge all Nigerian students to continue to repose their trust and support in us and disregard messages or statements of some notorious elements who want to trade our birth right for a plate of porridge. Their cynical endorsement reminds us again that the lineage of Esau still exist in our association, we shall not allow them to take us back to our Egypt.

God Bless NANS,
God Bless Ondo State,
God Bless Nigeria.

Signed
Oladimeji Ayodele Blackey
Chairman.
