Outrage in FUOYE over Death of Student

There was outrage at the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) following the death of a fresh student of the university identified as Blessing Falana, last Thursday.

The 100Level Social Demography and Statistics student died at the school’s health centre after she broke down during registration formalities.

Miss Falana was reported to be a sickle cell patient which prompted the crisis that took her life.

Her death angered the students, who immediately mobilised for a showdown with the institution’s authorities, but the prompt response of the school security operatives and policemen saved the day.

The students claimed that the institution’s management “deliberately killed our colleague,” threatening to sue the Vice Chancellor, Professor Isaac Asuzu.

They also expressed anger over the alleged refusal of the management “to allow us to unionise to enable our union fight our cause.”

However, the VC denied that the institution was culpable in the death of the student.

“For the records, the deceased was a sickle cell patient who had crisis and was rushed into the university health centre where she unfortunately gave up the ghost after medical attempts failed to rescue the situation.”

The VC added: “The university is actually mourning the deceased who was expected to matriculate on February 6. The issue of wrong diagnosis does not arise as being claimed by some of the students.”

May the Soul of Blessing Falana Rest In Peace… Amen!
