Academic activities were paralysed at the Kogi State University (KSU), Anyingba on Monday, as the academic and non-academic staff of the institution announced an indefinite strike.
The university workers under the auspices of Senior Staff Association
of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non Academic Staff Union
(NASU) are calling for the removal of the vice chancellor.
Speaking on the strike action, the chairman of SSANU, KSU chapter,
Comrade Moses Balogun, said that the workers are suffering from poor
welfare and gross mismanagement had reduced the quality of learning in
the institution.
He blamed the university governing council and the management for the unfortunate fall in quality of the institution.
Balogun added that the unions had signed an agreement with the state
government in 2009 over the improvement of workers welfare but the
government is yet to act on it.
He said the institution will remain shut till the government heeds to their demands.
