Being Progressive Student
leaders and major players in the key to revitalizing our Nation Nigeria, the
leadership of the NANS JCC Ondo Axis has this to say.
STATE OF THE NATION
We commend the effort of the
newly inaugurated Government at the Centre in trying to resolve the enormous
problems befalling the nation. We must however state that in doing this, the
Sovereignty of Our Nation must be maintained and the Federal Government must
not in anyway give in to civil colonization of the Nation's Economy.
We must also remind the
President, that Nigerian Students will not take any excuse for failure and
expects the Government to perform to its fullest.
OSUSTECH
The recent closure of the
Ondo State University of Science and Technology for an indefinite period is
criminal and Unjust. It is a manifestation of the despotic and undemocratic
tendencies of the Ondo State Government towards managing opposition.
While there are several
issues meant to be addressed and demands needed to be met, the Ondo State
Government shut down the school on the basis of Students' protest that to a
large extent was very peaceful.
We are aware of the
Government's plan to focus attention on the School of Medical Sciences newly
approved at Ondo town. While this is a welcome development, this is not an
excuse to neglect existing schools in the State. Our demand for adequate
funding of Osustech must be met. The outrageous and criminal fee must also be
drastically reduced to a fee agreed democratically by Parents, Students, and
Workers.
Adeyemi University Of
Education
We also wish to state that
the indefinite postponement of the Students' Union Elections in Adeyemi
University of Education is seriously frowned at. The excuse that security
cannot be guaranteed is babyish and should not exist at all. It is ridiculous
to know that the University authorities cannot cripple the activities of Cults
Organizations on campus to provide an atmosphere for peaceful Elections.
We also wish to appreciate
the effort of making the elections an electronic one, we must warn that it must
not in anyway be used as an instrument to manipulate the will of Students in
AUE. The Electoral body must have full control over the E-voting with no
management interference from any angle. Anything short of this is tantamount to
confrontation and outright resistance from the Students.
FEEBLE FIGHTHERS
We are also aware of attempts
by a group masquerading as Student leaders in Ondo state to pour out their
frustration through deadly means. The leader of this group one Kowe Odunayo who
claims to be a Spill-Over Student of Adekunle Ajasin University was sponsored
by the government in his purported election, and now that the Government has
abandoned him, he has suddenly remembered how to be a Freedom Fighter and as
continued to distract the genuine struggle of Students at different means.
We advice Kowe Odunayo to
squarely face his Studies, as the reasons why he couldn't and have not
graduated with his mates isn't far behind. We advice that he leave the Student
structure and try to take hold on what the Society holds on him especially
after the political drowning of his political Leader: Senator Boluwaji Kunlere.
Thus, NANS is a place for training future leaders and not a template for
persons who have failed in their academic pursuit to seize our Association as a
means to skyrocket themselves to a new political adventure.
The agents that sponsored
Kowe Odunayo in his election have turned against him and he is finding every
means of Pinching back hence his presence of been part of genuine and
revolutionary Students' started by Students themselves.
AKUNGBA's REGENT KIDNAP
We also share pains with the
Akungba community that had her regent kidnapped recently. We sincerely hope
that the Security in the State which recently have been in a state of comatose
will rise up and #BringBackOurRegent. Moreso, youths in the community should
remain calm and should not allow unscrupulous elements take advantage of the
present situation by bridging the existing peace between the Students and the
community.
