The Governing Council of the Lagos State University (LASU) on Monday said that it had inaugurated six Ad-Hoc Committees to look into the lingering crisis in the institution.
This development is contained in the university’s Official Bulletin, given to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
It said that the council took the decision with specific terms of reference at its reconvened meeting last week.
The council directed the committees to investigate all issues raised
by the four staff unions in the institutions, including the Academic
Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), LASU Chapter.
Others are the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities
(SSANU), the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) and
the Non-Academic Staff of Nigerian Universities (NASU).
The bulletin directed the committees to come up with recommendations
on how the institution could be crisis-free to enable it to assume its
enviable position in the comity of universities.
According to the document, the Appointments, Promotions and Disciplinary Committee is headed by Prof. Musiliu Onilude.
The committee is to investigate, analyse, and come up with
appropriate recommendations on the allegations of non-payment of salary
increment arrears, high-handedness and double standards.
It will also address the alleged harassment, intimidation and
victimisation of staff and students, engaging in other gainful
employments and non-implementation of New Career Structure for Academic
Technologists among others.
The Infrastructure and Maintenance Committee, Chaired by Mr Kayode
Anibaba, is to investigate and come up with recommendations on the
allegations of replacement of damaged vehicle among others.
The Committee on Withdrawal of Certificate, headed by Prof. Adedayo
Ninalowo, will investigate and make recommendations on the alleged
withdrawal of certificate by the ASUU-LASU Chairman against the
university authorities.
It said that the Finance and Funds Management Committee, headed by
the Chairman, Mr Ken Igbokwe, would investigate and make recommendations
on the allegation of Misuse of University Funds among others.
According to the bulletin, the Condition of Service Committee is headed by Mr Akinsanya Ajose.
The Ajose-led committee is to investigate and make recommendations as
they affect Non-adoption and Implementation of Agreed Conditions of
Service between the Staff Unions and the University.
It said that the Special Committee chaired Prof. Musiliu Onilude,
would investigate and come up with recommendations as they affect
allegations of Discouraging Research and Genuine Scholarship among
others.
“Consequently, members of the university community who have
contributions to make should please forward their submissions to the
secretary of the relevant Ad-Hoc Committees through the Principal
Assistant Registrar, Council Division,’’ it said. (NAN)
