Over 3,000 new students took their matriculation oath during the 33rd Matriculation Ceremony of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), for the 2015/2016 academic session.
Speaking at the event held at the Main Auditorium of the University,
the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Adebiyi
Daramola, admonished the fresh students to engage in rigorous academic
activities and abide by the rules and regulations of the institution in
order to have a successful and memorable stay in the institution.
The Vice-Chancellor urged the students to be serious with their
studies, as the matriculation is just the first step albeit a critical
one that will ensure a successful academic sojourn.
Prof. Daramola implored them to look to lecturers as role models and
mentors and to refer all challenges they may encounter to the Students
Affairs’ Division in case of any difficulty requiring counseling and
interaction.
He assured the students that FUTA will continue to sustain its
tradition of excellence in academic research and peaceful learning
atmosphere as well as the character training of students.
The VC however, enjoined them to abide with the laid down rules and
regulations of the University as act of indiscipline would not only be
tolerated but will also be severely sanctioned.
Highlight of the occasion was the administration of the matriculation
oath on the new students by the Registrar, Dr. (Mrs.) Modupe Ajayi, in
line with the tradition of formal enrolment into Higher Education
Institutions.
