The Vice Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria(NOUN),
Professor Vincent Ado Tenebe, has complained of lack of funds from the
federal government and other stakeholders to enable the institution
fulfilled it’s mandate of advancing the cause of tertiary education in
Nigeria.
Professor Tenebe said there is the need
for deliberate funding from the federal government to ensure the
establishment of the university across the nooks and crannies of the
country in order to bring tertiary education to the door steps of all
nigerians at affordable cost.
The VC who said this during the
inauguration of the centre, NOUN Offa Community Study Centre in Offa,
said that it is the seventh of such centre, facilitated through communal
efforts in Nigeria.
Professor Tenebe particularly commended
the sole efforts of Olofa of Offa, Oba Mustapha Gbadamosi for making the
study centre a reality for the people of Offa and the environs to
benefit from and urged other traditional rulers across the country to
emulate such gestures.
He invited all capable communities to partner with NOUN in its quest to bring tertiary education to the grassroots.
